The Foundation Level focuses on the essential skills needed to dial in an espresso grinder, pull a perfect shot, and steam milk for cappuccinos. It introduces the fundamentals of coffee origins, milk techniques, latte art, health and safety, and customer service.
The Intermediate Level expands on these concepts, requiring both a deeper theoretical understanding and advanced practical application. This course explores how coffee varietals, origins, and processing methods influence flavor, while also covering workflow efficiency, drink construction, sensory aspects of espresso extraction, and key business practices.
SCA BREWING:
The Foundation Level introduces learners to different brewing techniques using both automatic and manual gravity brewers, as well as other locally popular brewing devices. You'll learn the fundamentals of extraction, brewing parameters, and how to analyze brew results to create a delicious cup.
The Intermediate Level builds on these skills, offering a deeper understanding of brewing variables, strength measurement, and adjustments needed for a balanced coffee profile. You’ll also gain insight into equipment maintenance, customer service, and sensory analysis to enhance coffee quality and consistency.
The Professional Level takes a scientific approach to brewing manipulation, water quality, and advanced coffee control chart navigation. Designed for experienced professionals, this course hones precision brewing skills, ensuring a mastery of extraction techniques at an expert level.
SCA ROASTING
The Foundation Level introduces learners to the roasting process, focusing on physical changes in coffee beans, sensory development, and the impact of different roast levels (light to dark). You’ll also gain insight into basic roaster maintenance and fire prevention.
The Intermediate Level builds on this foundation, diving deeper into roast profiling, temperature control, airflow adjustments, and defect identification. This course is ideal for those with some roasting experience looking to improve consistency, efficiency, and coffee quality.
The Professional Level takes a scientific approach to roasting, focusing on advanced profile manipulation, chemical changes during roasting, energy transfer, and precision adjustments. Designed for experienced roasters, this course enhances your ability to replicate roast profiles, troubleshoot issues, and refine coffee to perfection.
